Nature of Work
The Mo-Kan Region Regional Council, St. Joseph, Missouri - the six-county planning commission of Atchison and Doniphan counties in Kansas and Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb counties in Missouri - is seeking an Executive Director. The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the organization and will work for and with a 31 person Board of Directors comprising local elected officials and community representatives and a staff of 11 experienced professionals as well as the Executive Vice-President of a Small Business Administration Certified Development Company (CDC). Major programs of the Commission include regional transportation planning, economic development, small business loan programs, a Brownfield loan program, workforce development, GIS & technology, hazard mitigation, grant administration and a variety of other related efforts.
Candidates should have experience in a number of the program areas listed above and should have considerable knowledge of the organization and statutory obligations of local and regional governments. Individuals must demonstrate strong administrative, communication and marketing skills and show past successes in working for or partnering with state and/or federal agencies. Experience working with local governments is a plus. This position requires frequent attendance at evening meetings within the region, monthly travel to Jefferson City and Topeka, and occasional travel out-of-state.
A Bachelor's Degree in planning, public administration or related field is preferred. Dependent upon experience - Salary range DOQ.
